Welcome to Hale River Homestead at Old Ambalindum.  We are a station stay located 135km NE of Alice Springs, on the Binns Track in the heart of the East MacDonnell Ranges.

Escape the hustle and bustle of city life and visit us in our tranquil surroundings.  Boasting some of the most breathtaking views Central Australia has to offer and close to many historical sites, Hale River Homestead has something to offer everyone, from the day tripper to camping and caravanners to families looking for an exciting adventure or couples looking for a romantic getaway.  Choose to camp at our grassed campsite with fire pits and hot showers or opt to stay at one our more secluded bush camps where you can be assured of peace, quiet, and wide open spaces.  If camping isn't for you, book into one of three self contained properties; The Old Homestead, The Cottage or the budget friendly Bunkhouse and experience a slice of history.

We now offer meals, snacks, cakes, and a selection of drinks in the recently renovated Sydney Williams shed, now known as "The Workshop".  We are also able to cater to larger groups; tour buses, events, birthday parties, team building days, etc.  To see what we can offer you, get in touch via the 'Contact' section of the website and one of our friendly team members will talk you through the options.

  • Thank you so much for a wonderful two day stay in the cottage. What a beautiful piece of paradise you have created in the outback, which we love.Such a wonderful experience. Also for the children, playing with the dogs and feeding the calves. Enjoying a lovely meal together, it was very special for us. Send our love to Dave, we enjoyed every minute with him hunting for gems!

  • We greatly enjoyed our 3 day stay in this magnificent location. The Old Homestead is a very evocative place, and the cottage was perfect for our stay; luxury after a week of bush camping! Our thanks to Sophie and extended family for making our stay comfortable. The highlight was a visit to Mount George with Dave taking us to an amazingly beautiful and remote place in the East Macs.

  • A beautiful, peaceful Homestead stay and a luxurious break from camping. The furniture and finishing touches are special

  • We had a great drive out to Mount George, there is some great scenery on the road out and when you get there. Dave took us on a treasure hunt where we found garnet and black thormaline just lying on the surface! We found aquamarine and moonstone amongst a hill of quartz and mico, then off to explore an old mica mine. There was so much of it on the ground it felt like walking on a sponge. Dave has great knowledge of fossicking, the area and geology. We had a fantastic day.
